Come discover what membership means at The Summit Church
Discovery Class April 28

A number of folks have expressed interest in joining The Summit Church through membership. The process for becoming a member of The Summit begins with our membership class. I have revamped the class into a new format we calling The Discovery Class. As the name implies, you will discover some things about The Summit Church and learn what it means to make The Summit your church home. Our next Discovery Class will be after church on April 28. Lunch is included.

We have free book for you to read before coming to the Discovery Class. The book is called "I Am A Church Member" by Thom Rainer. It's very short but explains what we believe church membership is all about. Contact me to get a copy.

Please contact me or the church office to RSVP for the Discovery Class so I can get you a copy of the book and plan for lunch. I look forward to seeing you there.

Pastor Brian

Pulpit Committee Update

We are pleased to announce that the Prospectus that will help us find the next great Senior Pastor for The Summit Church has been approved by the Ministry Board and is now in the hands of Mission/Northwest for dissemination to qualified pastors around the nation. We have been told that we can expect to start receiving vetted candidates within 4-5 weeks. If you are interested in seeing the Prospectus a copy is available in the church office. If you know of anyone who may be interested in applying they should send their resume to:

MissionNorthwest,
601 S Ross Point Road,
Post Falls, Idaho 83854
or email: p-duckworth@abcnw.org

The Pulpit Committee has been meeting regularly while preparing the Prospectus and has been growing together in purpose and spirit. We have also continued to talk with many members of the congregation. One question that we have been asked is whether we will be looking for a strong Bible based Pastor. The answer is yes.

The opening paragraph of the Prospectus states that we require a pastor who deeply values Biblical teaching and the Leadership section of the Prospectus states that the Senior Pastor shall be an ordained American Baptist Minister who shall preach the Gospel regularly. But perhaps even more important than the words in the Prospectus are the thoughts and feelings of the Pulpit Committee members. We spent an hour of our last meeting discussing this point. We found that we all attend The Summit Church because of its strong Biblical preaching. That will be a very important element of our selection process.

So what happens next? The Mission/Northwest regional staff will review the applications of all who respond to the Prospectus and will do follow-up contacts with them. They then send the Pulpit committee the resumes of those most qualified and who agree to participate in an initial interview. We will then conduct an initial interview with each candidate and through evaluation and prayer narrow the original group down to a shorter list for more in depth interviews. Through additional prayer, observation, reference checking, and evaluation, we will then select one candidate to present to the church. After a Candidating Weekend when the candidate has met with as many members and groups as possible, the Summit Board will call for a special meeting in accordance with the Constitution. To approve a new Senior Pastor 30 % of the Voting Membership is required for quorum and a 2/3 majority is required for approval of the candidate. If the vote is favorable the Board, on behalf of the congregation, will extend a call with some time for the candidate to respond. The length of these phases is unknown and the timing is all in the Lord's hands but we will do all we can to help the process move along.

Please keep the committee: Tami Sherman, Martie Penick, Susan Gambee, Heath Hiatt, Brian McKay, Mike Shafer, and Jerry Heimbuch in prayer as we enter this next very important phase of discerning who God would have us call to be our next Senior Pastor.

Digital Check-Ins for Children Starts
Sunday, April 28

If you've visited another church in the last few years, you've probably seen a station where kids get checked in and get a name tag.  These tags have things like security codes, parents' phone number, and the child's allergies.  We are about to start using such a system.  Parents, you'll check your kids in before service, and they'll be released mid-service as usual.   This Sunday you'll see a video of Nora's stunt double and myself teaching you how to use the self-check-in stations.
Activities to Help Kids
Prepare for Easter

It's back and expanded!  Here's the link to the Easter Ideas Pinterest board I created.  It's full of activities such as games, crafts, coloring pages, snacks, and more. All pins meet three criteria: they focus on Jesus, they are cheap to free, and they are so easy I could do them.  We just moved, and I had trouble taping up the boxes, so that means these activities are pretty easy.
The Easter Countdown Banner Is Up
As you walk down the main stairway with your children, stop for a moment and tell them that the best day of the year is coming.  Not their birthday, Christmas, nor even the last day of school, but the day we celebrate that Jesus sacrificed Himself for sins and came back to life from the dead.

Volunteering with minors includes a background check, reference, and interview.
Wednesday Nights
Come join the youth group for games, snacks, singing praises to God with the youth band, talking about our faith, praying for one another, and age-graded small groups.  7:00-8:45 PM. Currently we meet in B-30, but starting March 3 we will be meeting in B-2.
Sunday Morning
Come join the youth for some sugar for breakfast and time hanging out with people your own age before we join the whole church in the 10:00 AM service.  We meet downstairs either in B-17 or the Fellowship Hall (the big event room) at 9:00 AM.  We eat together, relax, and work on projects for our church and community.
